A Day in the Life of...Lowri Amies

Posted on 26 January 2015

We caught up with Lowri Amies who plays both Mayfly 2 and Cricket in Only A Day. See what her perfect day would consist of, as well her first trip to the theatre and favourite book as a child.

Tell us a little about your character in Only A Day?
I play two characters: The role of the Cricket is to watch over the Dayfly and the role of Dayfly 2 is to wait for inevitable death.

What’s the best thing about your job?
You get to play all day! It combines deep thought with physical exploration.

What was your favourite book growing up? The Famous Five by Enid Blyton.

What’s your earliest memory of visiting the theatre? I have been to the theatre every year on my birthday since I was two.

If you had 24 hours to spend as you saw fit and money were no object, what would you do? I would buy a time machine and go back and spend another day with my mum.

Describe a typical day in rehearsal?
We combine text work with lots of physical work like being our animals and seeing what form that the animal might take in a human being.

If you could spend ‘a day in the life’ of any animal, which animal would it be and why?
A dolphin because they are playful, intelligent and form friendships for life.

Tell us about a moment that changed your life?
I don’t believe a single moment can change your life. Your life is made up of moments and the change is imperceptible. Even if you won the lotter, it would be a culmination of moments – buying the ticket, watching the numbers come up, revels and spending the money

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
‘All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.’ – Walt Disney. Obviously he didn’t tell me that himself but the fact that he failed so many times, went bankrupt and had his first character ‘stolen’ from him but yet he kept going, is inspirational in itself.

Catch Only A Day on B2 stage from Sat 7 – Sat 21 Feb. Tickets are available now at our Box Office.
