Casting announced for Club Tropicana

Posted on 11 October 2018

Following the announcement that brand new 80s pop musical Club Tropicana is coming to the Belgrade Theatre in Spring 2019, casting has now been announced for the sun-soaked summer show.

Leading the cast will be X Factor winner Joe McElderry, hailed as the greatest Joseph ever for his leading role in Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

He’ll be joined by Neil McDermott, best known as Ryan Molloy in EastEnders and Lord Farquaad in Shrek the Musical, as well as acclaimed comic performer Kate Robbins, who has entertained audiences in Spitting Image, The Imitation Game and The Harry Enfield Show to name but a few.

Also appearing in the show will be Emily Tierney, whose credits include Glinda in both the original UK tour of Wicked and in the original cast of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Wizard of Oz. On TV, she has been seen as Lydia in Channel 5 series Push.

Completing the principal cast will be Amelle Berrabah, best known as one third of the chart-topping girl group Sugababes. She is the first and only member of the group to achieve a solo number one with “Never Leave You”, a 2009 collaboration with Tinchy Stryder. Amelle makes her musical theatre debut in Club Tropicana, but previous screen credits include feature film Plastic and BBC TV series Tumble.

Additional casting for the show includes Karina Hind, Calvin Hudson, Cellen Chugg Jones, Megan Louch, Rebecca Mendoza, Alexanda O’Reilly, Joshua Pearson, Rory Phelan, Nye Rees, Camilla Rowland, Christina Shand, Courtney-Brogan Smalley, Tara Verloop and Kane Verrall.

Written by Michael Gyngell, and directed by Samuel Holmes and Nick Winston, Club Tropicana invites audiences to take a trip to the Club Tropicana Hotel, where hair and shoulder pads are huge, and girls and boys just wanna have fun. Get ready to revisit the electric 80s, with an irresistible soundtrack of iconic hits from Cyndi Lauper, Frank Goes to Hollywood, Culture Club, a-ha, Depeche Mode and more.

When a budding bride and groom get cold feet, they each decide to jet off to sunnier climes and feel the heat – but little do they know they’ve checked into the same hotel! Reunited in the sizzling summer heat, will our young lovers decide to go through with the wedding? And will the hotel inspectors (finally) get their way and close the resort, or will the staff manage save the day?
