Hear what audiences and critics are saying about Wipers

Posted on 15 April 2016

Our brand new co-production of Wipers opened in Leicester this week and the response from audiences and critics has been incredible so far.

Set in October 1914 on the eve of the first battle of Ypres (known to the men as ‘Wipers’), Ishy Din’s important new play shines a spotlight on the often overlooked contribution made by the million South Asian soldiers who fought alongside their British brothers in the trenches of 1914.

Here are just a few of the first reviews to come from last night’s press night performance:

‘Inspired by the true story of Victoria Cross winner Khuddadad Khan, it’s an important play for a city…and for a nation.’ Whatsonstage.com

‘Din’s play has a burning, beating heart – and it shines a light on the lesser-known stories of the First World War.’ The Stage

In one of the most poignant and decidedly original First World War plays Wipers wins on all fronts. East Midlands Theatre

Wipers runs in B2 from Thurs 12 – Sat 21 May. For more information, call our friendly Box Office on 024 7655 3055 or visit www.belgrade.co.uk
