Run for your Money - Belgrade staff take part in Sunrise City 5k Run

Posted on 30 July 2019

This month, the Belgrade became a host venue for Coventry’ s Sunrise City 5k run. Taking place in at 5.30am in nine locations in England, Sunrise offers runners a chance to discover their city in a new light, introducing an unexpected wave of colour to streets which are otherwise quiet in the early morning.

Taking part in the run can also be a great way to fundraise for charities, and with our 2020 Redevelopment Project now underway to get us ready for 2021, we’ve been calling on our friends and supporters to get involved and help us raise the remaining £450,000 we still need to hit our funding target.

To get the ball rolling, on Friday 19 July, a group of Belgrade staff members came in bright and early to join the ranks of runners taking part in the race. with the aim of raising awareness and funds for our Play Your Part campaign. Here are a few snaps of them in action!

Coventry Sunrise City 5k Run commences

As a registered charity, the Belgrade Theatre is reliant on funding from Members, donors, trusts and corporate supporters to continue its wide-ranging work in the community. Our 2020 Redevelopment Project will not only see the refurbishment of our foyers and 1958 Main Stage auditorium, but also the installation of solar panels above our offices, and the linking up of our ground floor café and first floor Burbidge Room into a flexible, combined space for eating, drinking and socialising.

The final phase of the project will be the transformation of the nearby Jaguar pub into a versatile “creative talent hub”, where our youth and Arts Gym groups, Springboard companies, external community groups and more will be able to rehearse and develop work. Above this space, we will also create a flat to be hired out to visiting performers or creatives.

The aim is for these changes to create a more sustainable future for the theatre, both in terms of reducing our environmental impact, and creating new ways for us to generate our own income in the future, enabling us to better provide for the communities we serve.
