Teaching Shakespeare: Belgrade and RSC team up for a series of educational workshops

Posted on 22 May 2019

Five Coventry schools will have the opportunity to benefit from a series of free workshops taking place between autumn 2019 and summer 2020, thanks to an exciting new partnership between the Belgrade Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company.

This unique Continued Professional Development and Learning (CPDL) programme will offer teachers from selected schools the chance to develop new approaches to teaching Shakespeare’s plays, as well as exploring methods of using theatre as a tool for learning and development more broadly.

Open to any state-maintained primary, secondary or special school, the course will run across five dates, with workshops led by expert practitioners from both the Belgrade and the RSC.

Belgrade Theatre Education Officer Claire Procter said: “The Belgrade Theatre has a long tradition of breaking new ground with its dynamic educational projects. This new CPDL partnership with the RSC will build on the legacy of our pioneering Theatre in Education programme, which dates back to the 1960s, as well as fostering new connections with our regional partners in the lead-up to Coventry’s year as City of Culture in 2021.”

Interested schools are required to complete a short appplication form. For more information or to apply, please contact Claire Procter on cprocter@belgrade.co.uk

The deadline for applications is Friday 7 June.
