Open auditions for this year's panto chorus

Posted on 10 July 2013

This year’s pantomime is Jack and the Beanstalk and once again we’re giving local children the chance to attend open auditions on Sunday 8 September, which could see them land a role in the panto chorus.

The auditions, which are for boys and girls aged between 9 and 16 years of age (N.B this is a change – it was previously 8-16 years), will be held at the theatre and will start promptly at 10am.

Parents are asked to bring their children to the theatre foyer no later than 9.45am and remain with them throughout the day. This year children are required to register prior to arrival at the theatre. Registration forms are available from the downloads section on the right hand side of this page or they can be collected from the theatre Box Office.

During the audition the choreographer will take each group in turn and teach them a short routine which will be presented to the panto director. If a child makes it through the first round s/he will be asked to stay for a further round.

We suggest that children wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for them to move and dance in, and that they bring a soft drink with them (not fizzy).

Please keep in contact with your child(ren) throughout the day as they will be able to advise you when to pick them up; if they are chosen to go forward to the next round, they may be required to stay for most of the day.

We will be stopping for a lunch hour, the time of which will be decided on the day. Please pick your child up for lunch if they are still with us. Please note that we do not allow food to be brought into the theatre because we have our own café bar which has a selection of light meals on offer all day.

Those children chosen for the panto chorus and their parents will be asked to attend a meeting at the end of this session for a chat about licensing and panto guidelines. We appreciate it is a very long day but we feel it is important to give you as much information about the commitment needed and process involved at the earliest opportunity.

We are looking for 3 teams of panto chorus plus one full team of reserves. Children will need to commit to rehearsals on school night evenings and some Saturdays from 9th November 2013 . Then, when we go into technical rehearsals we will be rehearsing all day during w/c 25th November (which does mean missing school). The pantomime production run is from 27th November 2013 – 5th Jan 2014 incl, and there are 52 performances.

Your child MUST be available for the whole period as no rehearsals or performances can be missed. Every child performing requires a performance license which must be completed and sent to the education authority 21 days before the first performance – we co-ordinate this with support from parents and the school.

You do not have to book to attend the auditions, just arrive at the theatre at 9.45am for a prompt 10am start. You can download and complete your registration forms in advance from the downloads section on the right hand side of this page. They will be available on the day but doing so in advance will speed up the process.

You can also download further information including frequently asked questions and an equalities form.
