Love is Love - Stardust and My Beautiful Laundrette Fly the Flag for Equality

With this week marking the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we’re joining the Fly the Flag campaign to explore what human rights mean to us today.

In autumn 2019, we’ll be hosting Phizzical’s Bollywood-style musical Stardust and a new adaptation of Hanif Kureishi’s classic film My Beautiful Laundrette – two very different productions, both highlighting LGBT British South Asian experiences.

Ahead of their opening in Coventry next season, we spoke to Samir Bhamra – director of Stardust and artistic director of Phizzical Productions – and Nikolai Foster – director of My Beautiful Laundrette and artistic director of the Curve Theatre in Leicester – about the idea of love as a human right, and what the two shows have to tell us about the freedom to love who we choose. Listen online below to find out more.

Stardust shows at the Belgrade Theatre 14-21 Sep. Co-produced by the Belgrade Theatre, CURVE theatre, Leicester, Leeds Playhouse and Everyman Theatre – Cheltenham, My Beautiful Laundrette runs in Coventry 29 Oct-2 Nov.
