Due to enormous popular demand, the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry has announced plans to revive its hugely successful production of the Coventry Blitz play, One Night in November, this autumn.
The play, which has just finished a highly successful sell-out run, will return to the theatre’s B2 auditorium for three weeks from 8 – 29 November 2008 following an overwhelming response by audiences who have been clamouring for tickets to the last few performances in recent weeks.
Hamish Glen, the Belgrade Theatre’s Artistic Director and director of the play, commented, “I am delighted that we are able to announce a revival of One Night in November. The show generated so much interest and acclaim that I can genuinely say it is by popular demand.”
“A stunning evocation of the Coventry Blitz.” The Guardian
This new run of the show will include performances on 14 November, the anniversary of the Coventry Blitz and the date that the play’s title refers to, as well as Remembrance Day on 11 November.
One Night in November follows the dramatic events around one family’s harrowing experience of the Coventry Blitz and also questions whether Winston Churchill had advance warning of the attack. Was Coventry sacrificed for the greater good? Or to provoke America into the war?
“The staging of the bombing – the whine, the flash, the deafening noise – is particularly vivid.” The Times
The play, by Coventry-born writer Alan Pollock, has stirred up national interest with two recent articles in the Daily Mail and The Times debating the play’s claims about Churchill.
This gripping wartime love story follows Michael, an Oxford tutor who has been forced to turn his literary skills to deciphering codes at Bletchley Park, and Katie, a headstrong 18 year old who lives with her family in Coventry. Katie has no idea how terrible the threat of war is – but Michael does.
“The special effects are quite stunning it felt like a real bomb had landed on the lovely new theatre shaking the whole building.” The Stage
One Night in November is directed by Hamish Glen, designed by Patrick Connellan with sound design by John Scott and lighting design by Arnim Friess.
Tickets are priced from £6 - £19.
