Bringing Children and Young People to the Theatre
The Belgrade Theatre welcomes patrons of all ages to the theatre.
Our policy is to allow children* of all ages to attend productions, taking into account any age recommendations the show may carry. When patrons wish to visit the Belgrade with children,we ask them to follow specific guidelines which are designed to ensure that everyone visiting the Theatre will have an enjoyable experience.
We have a limited number of Booster Seats available for children. These are available on a first come first served basis so we advise patrons to arrive in plenty of time if they wish to take advantage of them. Please be aware that very small children may have sightline issues from the first three rows in front of the Main Stage. Tickets for seats on these rows are discounted accordingly.
Patrons should be aware that both the Main Stage Theatre and B2 are built in order to amplify sound. This means that noise from the audience is also amplified and can affect the enjoyment of fellow patrons, and the concentration of the performers. Small noises such as the rustling of sweet papers, a mobile phone “buzzing”, or a small child whimpering can be heard throughout the auditorium.
Parents should be aware that many of our productions are aimed at an adult audience and may contain, for example, loud music or adult language. Please note that patrons are also allowed to consume alcohol in the auditorium, except where shows are specified as Family Shows.
We regularly programme Family Shows and will advertise the age recommendation. This is intended as a guideline only. We realise that parents know their children better than we do and therefore we expect that parents will make their own decision on whether or not a performance may be suitable for their particular child. If parents are concerned about the content of a Family Show, they are advised to seek clarification in the show information on the website or to contact the Box Office to ask specific questions.
We ask that parents do not bring very young children or children who may be disruptive to see quiet shows unless it is a specified Family Show. This is particularly the case for shows in B2 which is a very small auditorium. The Box Office will be able to advise customers if a particular show will be suitable for a young child. However, it is the parent’s decision whether or not to bring their child to see the show and the Belgrade Theatre cannot be held responsible if a parent decides after the fact that a show was not suitable for their particular child.
All children under 13 attending a performance must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Anyone wishing to go into either auditorium must have a ticket, even very young children. For children under the age of 2 a lap seat ticket must be purchased, which can only be booked by calling or visiting the Box Office. Parents attending with very young children must make the Box Office aware at the time of booking. Children over 2 may only enter the auditorium with a normal ticket. Should a child become disruptive the adult will be asked to remove them from the performance. Refunds for missed performances will not be given.
We welcome children and young people in the theatre foyers but we ask accompanying adults to monitor their behaviour so that they respect both the space and the fact that it is used by other patrons.
Please consult a member of our Front of House or Box Office staff if you have any queries regarding this information.
*For the purpose of this document a child is considered to be under 18 years.
