We've found five dedicated film-makers, photographers, editors or journalists, aged 18 – 30, to join the Belgrade Theatre’s first ever Media Academy.
Over a 6 month period they will develop their skills, receive free training from industry professionals, produce new work, be introduced to new contacts, showcase their work to an audience and receive free mentoring from Belgrade staff. They will meet online and (when appropriate) in person.

What is media?
Media is any form of communicating information, such as photography, film, journalism, radio, graphic design, illustration. We will tailor the media academy to the interests of the group.
Who will be running the Media Academy?
The Media Academy will be run by two facilitators (male and female) who are both award-winning videographers and photographers. They have both been working in media for over 10 years. There will also be regular guest facilitators and speakers running sessions with the participants, who have specific expertise.
What will we be doing in the Media Academy?
The programme will be structured around the needs and interests of the group. There will be opportunities to learn about: cinematography, sound recording, filming for TV, studio shoots, photography, lighting, editing, interview techniques, community engagement, event management, fund raising, business management and more.
Practical sessions will be structured around the filming of Seaview, an online digital TV series created and directed by Belgrade Theatre Co-Artistic Director, Corey Campbell, as part of our City of Culture 2021 programme.
As a group we will work collectively to produce a documentary film. Participants will also receive a micro commission to produce and showcase their own work at the end of the programme.
Do I need to have my own equipment?
It is preferred but we will have cameras available for anyone who doesn’t have their own. We will also have lighting, backdrops and computers for participants to use during the sessions.
How long will the sessions be?
Sessions will take place weekly over zoom, or in person when it is safe to do so, and will be 1.5-2 hours long. The whole program will run for 6 months. If participants can’t attend a session, that is fine, just let the facilitators know before the session starts..
