The Belgrade Theatre is committed to providing a range of opportunities to develop the theatre talent of the future.

We want to support local artists to grow and work with artists in partnership with other arts organisations to raise the quality and profile of work being created in the Midlands. We know it’s harder for some than others, and the theatre Industry is disproportionately represented by people who are white, able-bodied and from a narrow range of socio-economic backgrounds, we want to play our part in changing that. It is our ambition to work with and for our artists and communities to move towards the Belgrade being an inclusive theatre.

At the Belgrade we want to create a space where local creatives/artists can connect with the Belgrade and each other. As Coventry’s largest professional producing theatre, we believe it’s essential that we support our local artists to access opportunities, not just here at the Belgrade, but across the West Midlands and beyond.
Springboard and Supported artists
In 2015 we established our Springboard initiative, to support early stage companies to develop to the next chapter of their careers over the course of 3 years. Through this initiative we provide rehearsal and performance space, mentoring, support from the Belgrade teams to support organisational development, capacity building and sustainability.
Working with our current cohort of Springboard companies from 2018, the Belgrade recognises these companies’ roles in serving communities we do not, and benefits enormously from the expertise and lived experience they bring to the Belgrade and its staff. Our current Springboard companies include:
