2020 Redevelopment Project

Support Coventry as UK City of Culture, by playing your part in the Belgrade’s 2020 Redevelopment Project – which will ensure the Theatre is a sparkling cultural gem for 2021 and beyond.

The project, to be completed by September 2020, has three main outcomes, to:

  1. refresh our 1958 Main Stage Auditorium and foyers, so our audiences and visitors have a more enjoyable experience;
  2. secure our longer term financial sustainability, by redeveloping the café and first floor Burbidge Room – to create a joined up, flexible, space; and
  3. develop an exciting multi-functional creative talent hub, in the vacant Jaguar Pub at the back of the Theatre, as part of our commitment to community, education and talent development activities.

However, we can’t do any of this without your help.

Here is Nick Hancock to explain a bit more…

The 2020 Redevelopment Project will cost £4.8m, of which we have secured £3.7m – through a generous package of support from Coventry City Council, DCMS and CWLEP.

Our Play Your Part (PYP) fundraising campaign is seeking to raise £600,000 from individuals and corporates by September 2020 – so you too can be part of Coventry’s year as UK City of Culture and ensure our legacy at the Belgrade continues for another 60 years.

You are not alone in supporting the project, as actors visiting the Belgrade between February 2019 and September 2020, will be playing their part – by signing the P.L.A.Y letters displayed in the cabinet opposite box office, including to date:

Nick Hancock; Gillian Bevan; Carolyn Backhouse; Eric Richard; and Paul Bradley.

You are part of our present, now is the time to play your part in the Belgrade’s future, by supporting us in one of the following ways:
