2020 Redevelopment Project

2020 Redevelopment Project

Thanks to you playing your part, this project is now complete.

With Coventry’s year as City of Culture finally here, we’re delighted that our fabulous and truly transformational 2020 Redevelopment Project has now been completed.

The fully-funded £5.5m project secured financial support from Coventry City Council, Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership,  Department for Culture, Media and Sport, Arts Council England, and 650 incredibly kind donors who raised an amazing £458,468 (Individuals, Corporates & Trusts).

Thanks to your support, we were able to:

  1. Refresh our 1958 Main Stage auditorium and foyers, to give our visitors a more enjoyable experience; and
  2. Secure our long-term financial sustainability, by transforming our ground-floor café and first-floor Burbidge Room into a joined-up, flexible space that can function as a destination café-bar, operating even outside of the theatre’s usual opening times.

Through the installation of solar panels and improvements to our electrical systems, the project also enabled us to become more energy-efficient, continuing our commitment to reducing our environmental impact.

We are currently in the process of commissioning a permanent piece of art – to recognise those who have donated to our capital project- which will be unveiled at the Belgrade in the autumn.

For more details about the opening times and activities of our exciting new café and Nineteen58 bar, please visit Food & drink – Belgrade Theatre

As we were successful in achieving our funding target, the third and final phase of our capital works is the conversion of the nearby Jaguar pub into a multi-functional “creative talent hub/digital space”, which will provide invaluable meeting and rehearsal space for community groups and emerging local artists.

This aspect of our 2020 Redevelopment Project is fully funded. However, if you would like to support our community, participation and talent development work, then please consider becoming a Member, or making a general donation.

Thank you.
