Black, Queer and Done

Fri 11 Nov 2022

What is it like being Black and Queer in the Arts and Cultural sectors? And how does that differ from what you normally see in the media?

Black, Queer & Done is an intense, emotive, unfiltered documentary exploring the experiences of Black Queer people within Arts, Culture and Media. The 90-minute film allows space for Queer artists and practitioners to debate the stereotypes, biases and beliefs that continue to be systemic within UK and global arts and cultural spaces.

It also explores the accepted narratives promoted by the mainstream media through eight Artistic commissions, ranging from spoken word and poetry through to aerial hoop work and dance, responding to three themes:

My Queer Me: Investigating Themes Around Authenticity; The Quietness to the Quirkiness of Queerness; Exploring The Spectrum; Not All Queer Is The Same

In-Between-Ness: Moving Past White Patriarchal Gazes; Viewing Queerness Via A Kaleidoscope Lens; Discovering What Exists Between

It’s Giving Thanks: A Celebration of Black Queer Ancestry; Decolonisation Via Self-Discovery; Acknowledging The Blackness Of Queerness

All commissions were filmed in the Belgrade Theatre’s B2 auditorium.

Attendees are invited to eat, drink and celebrate the premiere with artists, participants and live DJs in the Belgrade’s Nineteen 58 bar after the screening.
