Part of See It First 2026.
Designed for poets and spoken word artists, the session will unpack the unique opportunities and challenges that come with writing for theatre. Through discussion, exercises and reflection, participants will explore the assumptions often carried into theatre making, discover the differences between poetic and dramatic storytelling and embrace the unexpected learning that comes from entering a form that can feel familiar yet demands an entirely different way of thinking.
Amerah Saleh, a dynamic spoken word artist from Birmingham, intricately weaves her Muslim Yemeni heritage into her exploration of identity. Juggling roles as Chair of Apples & Snakes, part-time Strategic Advisor to the CEO at Oxfam, and leading initiatives like More Than A Moment, she embodies the belief that change must come from within and without simultaneously. With a relentless drive to reshape the world, Amerah’s performances have graced stages across Europe. Her collection, I Am Not From Here, unveiled in 2018, delves deep into themes of identity, womanhood, religion, and the elusive quest for belonging.
