Scrubbing Up: Belgrade Wardrobe staff support the NHS

Belgrade staff volunteer to sew scrubs for NHS - and you can help support them!

Wardrobe staff from our Belgrade Production Services workshop have been doing their bit to help the NHS while the country remains in lockdown.

Margaret and Mandy, who lead the talented team responsible for creating costumes for all of our home-produced shows – as well as a range of other high profile productions across the UK and abroad – have joined a volunteer group called the Rugby and Coventry Scrubbers.

The group has already seen an amazing effort from sewers across the region, who have been lending their skills to make scrubs and washbags for local hospital staff and GP surgeries, in order to help ease the pressure on NHS resources.

The Scrubbers are currently asking for donations of money and materials, and have so far raised over £5500 via a Facebook page. In a post on the page, Michele Goode explained more about the need for this volunteer support.

“We need this urgently as staff are being told they have to wear scrubs now and there are none available to buy, because they are all sold out. Reusing disposable ones is not an option, so we are making them and need a bit of help to buy material. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts and hope that what we are doing makes a difference.”

Michele estimates that it costs around £10 for each set of scrubs, covering the cost of 3.5 metres of material, cotton reels and cord for the drawstring. If you would like to donate or are interested in joining the group, please visit the Facebook page.
