Part of See It First 2025.
“When the people shall have nothing more to eat, they will eat the rich.”
Jean-Jacques Rousseau
The young, newly-widowed Mrs Lovett needs to find a way to survive. Using the skills she learned from her whaler father, Eleanor “recalibrates”.
Set before she encounters Sweeney Todd, we discover what ultimately leads her to turn his victims into pies.
You may think you already know Mrs. Lovett, but this new play invites you to dig into what made her: the brutal choices of a life in poverty. When the difference is life or death, morality becomes a moveable feast… and Eleanor is getting hungry.
After the show, head over to our B2 auditorium to see a preview of dark comedy Consumed, prior to the Edinburgh Festival. Tickets are bookable via the link.
This event takes place in The Jag, our new creative workshop and performance space, located just a few doors along from the main Belgrade building on Corporation Street, in the former basement bar, The Jaguar (hence the name!)
All manner of exciting plans are in place for The Jag, and they start with some performances from our See It First programme.
If you’re booking for a See It First performance in The Jag, here’s what you need to know:
- Capacity is limited so please book in advance if you can. Tickets are available online or from the Belgrade Box Office. If you can’t book in advance there will be a pop-up Box Office at The Jag itself, if there is ticket availability.
- There is a lift to allow wheelchair access to the performance space but access is via a corridor which is 90cm wide at its narrowest point. That means we’re unable to accommodate chairs that are wider than a standard wheelchair.
- The Jag performance area is in the basement. It’s incredibly atmospheric but be aware that it’s a dark space with a low ceiling and no windows.
