The Belgrade's Year 6 transitions programme.
This summer, the Belgrade Theatre will be touring its longstanding Year 6 transitions programme, Big School. We will be touring schools in Coventry from Monday 8 June – Friday 26 June 2026.
Big School is an original theatre-in-education programme that combines live theatre performance with participatory activities and exploration. The programme is designed to support pupils to explore their feelings about the move up to secondary school, and to equip them with useful strategies for dealing with issues of transition.
“I’ve been a year six teacher for four years and have never experienced anything like this before. The story was really relatable. It’s particularly useful for our learners as many of the class are not going to attend the same secondary schools and are going alone.” Year 6 Teacher
Big School is delivered in your school hall by experienced actor-facilitators and supported by a learning pack that enables both preparatory and follow-up work. The programme can be run for up to 3 classes of children at a time, and two schools can join together to share a performance (up to a maximum of 90 pupils).
‘The Big School programme speaks directly to the challenges our Year 6 pupils face as they prepare for secondary school, and to see them engage so openly and thoughtfully is truly inspiring.’ Deputy Head Teacher
