Join the Belgrade Theatre HUBS as they take centre stage in an exciting showcase of original short productions, created and performed by young people.
Theatre Hubs is the Belgrade’s year-round programme of drama workshops for young people aged 11–19, delivered both at the theatre and at Etone College in Nuneaton. Developed through weekly sessions, this work celebrates the creativity, insight and imagination of the next generation of theatre makers.
Inspired by the Belgrade’s upcoming production of Nanny of the Maroons, and exploring themes of leadership, resistance, the power of the imagination, and change, each piece offers a unique perspective on the world young people are growing up in today.
Please note that work will be presented as a double or triple bill across two performances.

Hope
Created by the Nuneaton Theatre HUB
Meet Hope. She’s an ordinary girl in an ordinary place. Normal in every way. Apart from one…
When Hope is forced to confront what her future, and the future or her generation looks like, she decides to take matters into her own hands. What follows is a journey that she believes has the potential to change the world.
This production performed and created by the young people from Etone College, Nuneaton uses movement, sound and the performers own words to remind us of the power of imagination and the importance of fighting for your future.
Uniforms and Uprisings
Created by the 11-14s Theatre HUB
School is supposed to guide us down the right path, but what do you do when school itself is a maze?
It’s Izzy’s first day at secondary school. She’s gone from the glory of Year 6 to big buildings with big kids. Big kids with big voices. Big voices saying things her mum would kill her for saying! The uniform rules seem to make everyone the same, when all Izzy wants is to find out who she really is.
Marcus loves playing football, but surely even Erling Haaland has to stop to eat lunch. When his best friend notices that Marcus hasn’t been eating, will he be able to help?
Phoebe is done with homework. She wants to learn something real. But nobody gives you a gold star for understanding your family or caring about the planet before it’s too late. We’re taught how to memorise facts, but not how to understand ourselves.
Join Izzy, Marcus, and Phoebe as they navigate the maze of school, growing up, and fighting against the system. Drawing inspiration from Nanny of the Maroons’ use of guerilla warfare to overcome adversity, our 11-14’s HUB have considered how their characters’ knowledge of their environment may help them to create real change.
Breaking Bread (It’s Time to Talk)
Created by the 14-19s Theatre HUB
What is a table? A place where we do our revision? Where we gather for long meetings that definitely could have been an email? Where stories are passed down from generation to generation?
Join our 14-19s HUBs group as they present a kaleidoscope of vignettes exploring oral traditions, humanity and our relationships with one another. This original piece of theatre has been inspired by some of the broader themes within Nanny of the Maroons, including female leadership, orature and resistance.
Creative Youth Forum
Our Creative Youth Forum is a group of young producers, who have been helping to plan and organise this year’s HUBs sharing week.
One area of focus for the group has been how to make our work more accessible. As part of their work together the Creative Youth Forum have organised captioning for all performances using the Difference Engine.

The Anxiety Monster
A Short Film Created by Next Steps
We all have an anxiety monster. That horrible thing that sits on our shoulder and causes us to worry. Follow Katie as she draws her classmates in her sketchbook, and as they teach her how to defeat her anxiety monster.
Our Next Steps group have been inspired by Nanny of the Maroon’s supposed supernatural powers and have considered how we can acquire real-life superpowers in order to overcome challenges.
Next Steps is a group run in partnership with Open Theatre, and students from Riverbank Academy and Baginton Fields Academy.
This event is not open to the public. If you are interested in coming to see this closed sharing, please email Katherine Allen via kallen@belgrade.co.uk for more information.
