Making Memories

Making Memories

A visit to the theatre is a magical experience and often a treasured memory. Unfortunately, due to financial hardship or illness, many families across Coventry and Warwickshire are not able to make these memories.

Building upon the success of last year’s campaign, we are partnering once again with Coventry Foodbank, to provide 500 tickets to our pantomime – offering families quality time together and the opportunity to reduce the sense of isolation that some people feel at this time of year.

Your kind donation to our Making Memories campaign will help many families in need to experience the joy, excitement and escapism that theatre can bring.

Whilst the campaign has got off to a great start – raising just over £1,300 of the £6,840 target in the first month – we have been overwhelmed with the number of families requesting support, so we would really like to help as many as possible to experience the magic of theatre this Christmas. We can only do this with your help.

Here’s Dame Sarah the Cook, to explain why Making Memories is so important, and the ways you can support the campaign.

Why Making Memories is important

Martin and his family are due to be evicted from their home in early January – just two days before Martin’s mother is due to give birth. Martin’s attendance in school has been affected and he suffers from emotional problems, which has resulted in counselling. Severe financial hardship is making life very difficult for the whole family. Martin is just 7 years old and has never been to see a pantomime.

You can support the campaign in many ways, including:

  • Donating in the collection buckets in the theatre foyers
  • Online here
  • Naming the Bear – suggesting a name for a £1 donation at Box Office
  • At the Box Office – in person or over the phone 024 7655 3055
  • Texting MEET16£2 to 70070 to donate £2 (you can alter the amount by changing the 2 for any number of pounds you wish to donate)
  • Every donation, like, tweet, link sharing helps to raise awareness of the campaign so THANK YOU.

David Jane, the Belgrade’s Development Director says,

We were absolutely thrilled to have exceeded our target for last year’s Making Memories campaign. I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated and helped provide people who are facing a challenging Christmas time with a treat that they won’t forget. Spending quality time together watching a show and building happy memories for the future can be a luxury and one that some people simply cannot afford. We can’t make people’s problems go away, but we can give them some respite from them, and help them to feel more positive.

The Belgrade Theatre Trust (Coventry) Ltd is a registered charity (No 219163), so all of the money raised and earned by the theatre is reinvested in the services it provides to the local community.
