La Bohème, is Puccini’s passionate story of love at first sight set in 19th century Paris, in a Bohemian district where students and upcoming artists live.

La Bohème is a love story between Mimi and Rodolfo. Rodolfo the poet and his friends live their lives in freedom and independence but at the price of financial struggle. One day Rodolpho falls in love with his fragile neighbour Mimi, and life takes a turn for the better. But poverty and Mimi’s ill health confront the couple with a harsh reality. They soon realise that love cannot conquer all.

In, La Bohème, Puccini not only tells a tragic story, but also portrays the subculture of Bohemians in 19th century Paris. Their great desire for freedom and independence at any cost. At the time of the premier in 1896, this opera gave a new outlook on life through everyday subject matter.
