SHE: The Live Experience comes to the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry on Sat 5 Sep 2026 at 7.45pm, with tickets from £12.
Created by Keneish Dance and supported by Arts Council England, the show is performed by a cast of seven and is inspired by the music of Your Queen Is a Reptile by Sons of Kemet – an album where each track honours women, past, present, future, and becoming.
Ahead of the show’s arrival in Coventry, Artistic Director Keisha Grant shared why this piece matters to her.
What made you want to bring SHE to life?
Bringing independent creative projects to life is never easy, and this is something I’ve been holding close for a couple of years now. I’m excited to convene a powerful creative team who will help breathe life into this vision and shape it into something special.
What is the show really about, for you?
Through my work, I express what words cannot say. With SHE, I’m looking forward to sharing narratives that are personal to me — my experiences as a woman, as a mother, and as a woman of colour navigating structural racism, and simply existing, arriving, and giving myself permission to stay.
This work is about presence, resilience, vulnerability, and truth.
What can audiences expect on the night?
SHE is strength. SHE is softness. SHE is fire. It’s a celebration of every woman and girl taking up space unapologetically. Expect moments of calm, joy, expect to be moved… literally.
Why Sons of Kemet’s Your Queen Is a Reptile?
Each track on the album honours an African diasporic woman – past, present, future, and becoming, and that spirit runs through every movement of the show.
