WEDUCATION: Drafting a script with Amy Ng

Amy Ng explains how she developed the initial idea for Under the Umbrella into a full-length script.

For this week’s Weducation posts, we’re taking a look at the subject of writing plays, and in particular, how an existing idea or story is developed into a script.

With Under the Umbrella streaming via our YouTube channel until Friday 29 May, our first post is a look back at our 2019 podcast with playwright Amy Ng. Based on an idea by producer Lian Wilkinson, Under the Umbrella offered a different way of working to Amy, who usually develops her own ideas from scratch.

Listen below to find out more about the process of collaborating on a story, and how a script can change and develop over time, through discussion with a director and in response to the rehearsal process.
