Work Opportunities

Work Opportunities

There are plenty of different ways to get involved with the Belgrade Theatre with a variety of career opportunities in both creative and administrative departments as well as in training and development.

There are many jobs ‘behind the scenes’ that go into running the theatre. The building is staffed from 6.30am to midnight, Monday to Saturday, with occasional Sunday opening. It is publicly funded and exists to provide cultural services to the public, to make our own productions and present the work of other theatre companies.

It is an incredibly busy environment and it is safe to say that no job is quite the same as its counterpart outside the theatre.

Apart from the actors and directors, there are numerous jobs available such as:

Wood-working – costume-making – prop-making – scenic painting – drama worker – stage-management – lighting technician – marketing – events – conferencing – operations – box office – chef – bar worker – administrator – waiter – fund-raising – accounting.

We advertise all permanent jobs on the Theatre’s website. Where appropriate we may also place ads in the local or national press. We are always interested to hear from people who want to know about working as an usher or on the bars or as a casual stage worker.

Job packs with further information and application forms can be found in the downloads section on the left of this page.

The Belgrade has an Equalities Team which monitors and develops the work the theatre is doing surrounding equal opportunities in the work place and diversity of the work force.

Production Department Administrator

This is a new post, created to support the general workings of the Production Department Office.

The role will involve assisting the Director of Productions and the Technical Manager in the day-to-day running of the theatre’s production department and coordinate all information regarding Belgrade productions, Visiting Companies, projects and events while also offering some basic holiday cover for Belgrade Production Services (BPS). The Administrator is required to ensure smooth, effective and efficient administrative systems are in operation to support the department fulfilling the Theatre’s ambitions. Key to this efficiency will be the timely and accurate provision of information to the relevant departments to enable them to fulfil their tasks.

Trainee Assistant Director & Trainee Assistant Director (Shadowing)

The Belgrade Theatre is looking for talented people from BAMER backgrounds to take up two paid Trainee Assistant Director opportunities in Autumn 2018. Through these opportunities we hope to provide valuable experience for the Trainee Assistant Directors, which will enable them to secure other work within the theatre industry, making some contribution to addressing the imbalance of diversity within the sector.

We anticipate the posts may attract candidates from a wide range of practical experience in this area. Therefore, the posts will be flexible to match the level of experience of the appointee, ranging from being a good “on the job” training position for some candidates, to a more experienced Assistant post for others. In any event it is also expected that the Trainee Assistant Director(s) will provide effective and efficient support to the Director(s) and the rest of the Company as is reasonable for their level of experience, during rehearsals and previews for the production.

Please note that this is a paid training opportunity funded by the Sustained Theatre grant in association with Tamasha, in recognition of the need to develop underrepresented artists in the community. As such, we will only be accepting applications by people from BAMER backgrounds.

For more information please download the Trainee Assistant Director information pack on the left hand side of this page.

Deadline for Applications;
Trainee Assistant Director: Mon 6 Aug, 5pm
Trainee Assistant Director (Shadowing): Mon 27 Aug, 5pm
