Belgrade opens B2 auditorium for season of talent development

If you're a Midlands-based artist looking for support in developing your work, we've got the perfect opportunity for you.

This autumn, we’re offering opportunities for five Midlands-based artists to develop their work. In an effort to make the Belgrade a more inclusive theatre, our B2 auditorium will open its doors to local artists, and the Belgrade will provide financial support to help develop their work.

Developing artists who have limited connections with the Theatre or have been unable to access talent development opportunities are invited to submit an application for a piece of work they would like support in creating. This can be a new idea, or a piece of work that already exists.

The offer is open to theatre artists, creatives, storytellers and freelancers at any stage of their career. Five slots of three to five days are available from w/c Mon 17 Oct to w/c Mon 21 Nov.

We will tailor our offering to successful artists depending on their needs, with support including connections to other artists, producers and organisations, help with funding applications and organisational development.

This project is part of an initiative to make the Belgrade a more inclusive theatre, as well as a wider ambition by a consortium of Coventry organisations working with different artists to create an inclusive culture.

Applications can be made in a variety of formats, depending on what suits the artist’s practice the best. It could be a face-to-face meeting, a Teams meeting, a written application, a video or a voice note.

We are interested in hearing:

  • Who you are
  • What you would like to do
  • Whether you would like financial support and how you might spend it
  • Your preference of date from the available week-long slots (w/c 17 Oct, w/c 24 Oct, W/c 31 Oct, w/c 14 Nov, w/c 21 Nov)
  • What else you would need to realise your plans in a happy and safe way

Applications open on Fri 24 June, with a deadline of Weds 17 Aug. We are available to meet with artists to discuss this opportunity and their ideas throughout June, July and August.

The Belgrade are passionate about trying new ways of working, in partnership with others who bring different expertise and lived experience. It hopes to find more inclusive ways of working to support the breadth of local talent.
